About Stripe
Stripe is a payments company used by a very large share of the internet, which in practice means two useful things for a winery: the checkout experience is familiar to your customers, and the fraud and authentication handling is somebody else's problem rather than yours.
It also handles the part of wine retail that trips up simpler payment setups, which is taking a payment months after the customer last visited your site. A club shipment, a balance payment on an allocation, a deposit on an event ticket. Those need a card stored securely and charged later, and Stripe is built for it.
What the integration does
Cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Express checkout is available from the cart, so a customer with a phone in their hand can pay in a couple of taps instead of typing a card number.
Wine club billing that runs on its own. When a customer joins a club, their card is saved for future payments with their agreement. Each shipment cycle charges it without anyone needing to be there, and failures are surfaced so you can chase them.
Deposits and balance payments. Event deposits and allocation balances use the same saved card, so the second half of a transaction does not mean emailing a customer for their details again.
Payments at the cellar door. Tap to Pay lets you take card payments in person from a phone, with the sale landing against the same customer record as their online orders.
Saved cards belong to the customer. People can manage their stored payment methods and set a default from their account, and card details never touch Marzipan.
Setting it up
